1840 CONESTOGA ROAD WAGON

MOTIVE POWER: Six horse or oxen team with bells
MADE IN: Lancaster County - Conestoga, Pennsylvania Contrary to popular belief this vehicle was generally not used in the wagon trains of the far western expansion of the 19th century America. Instead they were primarily utilized for freight east of the Mississippi River. The dory shape of its body prevented adverse load shifting on the rugged trails of Easter America.
